Mighty Bombjack (Elite)
A fun little game. Control takes a little getting used to, but severe addiction soon sets in.
Skull And Crossbones (Domark)
Good cartoon feel... Varied backgrounds... One to go overboard about!
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Elite)
Great graphics, shame about the far-too-frustrating game.
Great sky and landscape, plus attractive, quick wireframe for spaceships and bases. A massive challenge too.
An okay Gauntlet variant but likely to appeal only to die-hard fanatics of that genre.
Rugby Coach (Cult Games)
A big disappointment. The dull matches bear no resemblance to the rough-and-tumble excitement of the real thing, with no reference whatsoever to scrums or number of tackles!
Popeye 2 (Alternative)
Huge, Don Priestley-style sprites are Popeye 2's best feature. Otherwise, it's a mediocre platforms-and-ladders game, made worse by some very frustrating features.
Road Runner (Kixx)
The game looks like the cartoon and a lot like the coin-op... Simplistic gameplay and the tape multi-load is abhorrent, but on disk it's not bad at all.
Hunter's Moon (Kixx)
A sort of homage to the sadly missed Jeff Minter games.
Driller (The Hit Squad)
A superb piece of software... adds a whole new dimension to computer gaming.
Rambo III (The Hit Squad)
Recreates the film but the repetition of the early levels and disappointing flick-screen scrolling might become boring.
Gameplay is unsophisticated - run left and right, leaping from platform to platform and blasting the baddies - but it's so well done that addiction soon sets in.
Super Scramble Simulator (Kixx)
For such a simple game, the need for two disks and lengthy accessing simply defies belief.
Techno Cop (Kixx)
An okay game ruined by a slow multi-load.
The Trap Door Plus Through The Trap Door (Alternative)
The original game alone is worth the three quid, so don't let the 'bonus' sequel (which isn't a patch on the original) put you off.
Genghis Khan (Koei/Infogrames)
Unreservedly recommended. The challenge of the game is high, as the opponents are no fools.
Action Stations (Storm Computers)
Recommended for anyone interested in naval warfare.
Ultima VI: The False Prophet (Origin/Mindscape)
Ultima VI is role-playing at its most creative. Witness the state of the art.
Bandit Kings Of Ancient China (Koei/Infogrames)
The attention-to-detail is a wonder to behold, the subject matter is refreshingly original, the computer opponent very good indeed and the graphics, whilst not state-of-the-art, are pleasingly detailed.
Grand Prix (D&H Games)
Grand Prix proved to be surprisingly addictive, even though the majority of the game was text-based and the animation sequence was pretty simple.
Multi-Player Soccer Manager (D&H Games)
A good game spoiled by a frustrating manual.
Shadow Dancer (US Gold)
A slick, varied shoot-'em-up packed with lastability.
A tough, open-ended challenge. The atmosphere is enhanced by a great range of sound FX, all rising and fading in perfect relation to the closeness of various vehicles.
The Killing Cloud (Imageworks)
Great 3D, a good plot and plenty of action... Ambitious, innovative and intriguing too.
Railroad Tycoon (MicroProse)
Brilliantly addictive and wonderfully implemented... Railroad Tycoon is the bee's knees of "empire building" games.
Pro Tennis Tour II (Ubisoft)
A definite Grand Slam winner! Playing doubles is particularly fun.
