Scuttle Butt

If you are easily offended, it's probably best not to fire up this title, as it features a huge hairy arse and a bit of living room defecating. No, not decorating.

Run left and right like mad and catch all the excrement voided when the guy upstairs bum-crashes through the ceiling and unleaches a non-stop poopstorm - a sort of inverted (perverted?) Space Invaders.

Unfortunately, Mr. Horner (who shamefully presents' Scuttle Butt) has seen fit to arm you with only the one bucket in which to collect the mess and it fills up rather quickly. Happily, the Jet Set Willy-style toilet is in the vicinity and in between raining turds there's just time to make a dash for the loo and empty the over-brimming contents where they belong.

Each level as a finite quantity of "bumbs" to collect, then it's on to the next phase, which is more frantic and faster. Rinse and repeat, if you excuse the pun. It is a simple game, with a comic book aesthetic in the Viz vein and has chiefly been created for a bit of a laugh.

Well... how can you take a concept like Avalanche, Kaboom or Oil Panic and rebrand it? How about using puerile schoolboy humour and run with it (literally). Scuttle Butt is the result of this jejune experiment. It raised an eyebrow, induced a smirk, even made me play it a little while.

The graphics, which resemble those of yesteryear's weekly comics, are very good. I especially like the look of sheer panic on the man's face. But once the novelty wore off there was nothing to make me want to come back for more... er, generous helpings.

I played this for far too long. It's quite an addictive thing, catching crap from above, even though the hairy bottom does look like a scrotum. The home-setting reminds me of my Gran's house in the 1980s - all neat and tidy with a grandfather clock in the corner and the cold, smelly outside toilet you ventured into on those winter evenings. I think you should all have a go at this sometime - it puts life into perspective.

Verdict

A simple idea but hard to master - left, right, empty, repeat (wash hands).
