Flight Simulator ================ A real time graphic program for your Dragon 32. You are a passenger in a light aircraft on a domestic flight. Suddenly the pilot is taken ill, you must take control and try to land safely on the runway with only your intuition and an old flight handbook to help you. Features include: Colour option, Hi-res Graphics, Sound, Full aircraft instrumentation, Optional landing/in-flight modes, Navigational Equipment, Realistic Cockpit Display. Scenario -------- You are a passenger in a light aircraft on a normal domestic flight. Suddenly the pilot is taken ill. You are the only person left on the plane who has any chance at all of bringing it down safely. All you have to help you is an old handbook and your intuition. Good luck! Initial Options --------------- You are given a choice between just the final approach and landing or the full flight simulation. We suggest that you opt for the former to begin with, as the approach runway is lined up for you and the steering is taken care of by the autopilot. Successful Flying ----------------- A: Final Approach ----------------- Use your throttle and elevator to control your speed and altitude. The more power you take off, the more speed you will lose. However taking off too much power will cause you to lose height as well. Using your elevator to lose height will cause the plane to put on speed, so accommodate with the throttle. Likewise, climbing will cause you to lose speed. The aircraft has a maximum of 400 knots. Do not let the speed fall below about 130 knots or the aircraft will stall and crash. On the very final approach at about 5 miles, bring your speed down to around 120-150 knots and your altitude to 200-300 feet. At this stage put some flap on to reduce your stalling speed. At full flap the stalling speed is reduced to 90 knots. Do not let your speed rise above 180 knots with flap on or your wings will be ripped off! The same applies to your landing gear. You must land the aircraft almost as soon as the distance meter reads 0 or you will overshoot the runway. Do not land with the brake on, or you will skid and crash. Apply the brake as soon as you land to stop the plane, or you will taxi off the end of the runway. B: Full Simulation ------------------ The plane will appear at a random position on the map and you must use the rudder to direct the aircraft in the right direction. The runway can only be approached from the west and you must be lined up directly to the west of the runway on an approach bearing of 89-91 degrees and at a distance of 5-20 miles before you are accepted for landing. At this point you see the runway in visual and your distance meter will light up. Also the on-board computer will take control of the steering and the rudder control is therefore immobilised. Do not let the plane run out of fuel or you will crash. The VHF direction finder will help in your navigation to the runway, showing the direction of the runway from the plane in accordance with the direction it is flying.
