An immensely addictive, slick and infuriatingly difficult shoot-'em-up.
Road Runner (US Gold)
A very competent and playable conversion with is sadly marred by an awkward cassette multi-load.
A brilliant sequel, and a superb game in itself.
Mr. Weems And The She-Vampires (Piranha)
A poorly designed and executed Gauntlet derivative.
An initially rewarding, but ultimately unplayable development of an original concept.
California Games (US Gold/Epyx)
California Games is quite simply the apex of computer sports gaming at the present time. Recommending it is a formality.
A rather disappointing release... It fails to capture the imagination in the same way that Defender Of The Crown did.
This game is very, very ordinary and offers nothing that would convince me to add it to my shopping list - least of all playability.
A competent shoot-'em-up which lacks variety.
Guild Of Thieves (Magnetic Scrolls/Rainbird)
Destined to be a classic. An excellent program combining Magnetic Scrolls' programming expertise with a more accessible scenario and some excellent puzzles.
Shard Of Spring (SSI)
Absorbing, tantalising, and satisfying... In short, just shy of brilliant.
Auto Duel (Origin)
Some good points and the promise of lasting play - but the serious drawbacks might become too irritating in the long run.
Deceptor (US Gold)
An original and unusual variation on the transforming robot theme.
Death Wish 3 (Gremlin)
This game mirrors the pointlessness of the films a little too well.
Street Sports Basketball (US Gold/Epyx)
A fresh approach to an otherwise jaded format.
A colourful and noisy shoot-'em-up which lacks substance.
Snapdragon (Bubble Bus)
A poorly designed and totally unchallenging beat-'em-up.
The Living Daylights (Domark)
An uninspired and slightly repetitive Missile Command variant. Not what you'd expect from an officially licensed James Bond game.
A reasonably playable but unoriginal shoot-'em-up in the Uridium mould.
Mystery Of The Nile (Firebird)
A comical arcade adventure.
Trans-Atlantic Balloon Challenge (Virgin)
Completely and utterly dire - I cannot pour enough scorn on this pathetically contrived program.
Convoy Raider (Gremlin)
An unremarkable attempt at an arcade wargame.
Kikstart 2 (Mastertronic)
Just what Kikstart fans are waiting for. Twenty-four courses and a screen designer to keep you scrambling for months.
Star Paws (Software Projects)
A humorous and unusual release. There's four entertaining sub-games, and catching all twenty birds presents an absorbing challenge.
Game Over (Imagine)
A challenging, if rather frustrating, shooting and exploring game.
