Bridgehead

Bridgehead is a computer wargame from Gavin Barker of 5D Programs. For the 16K ZX81, it is loaded in two parts; a short program giving instructions, followed by the game itself.

The objective of the game is to establish a bridgehead then conquer the island (shades of the Falklands?). You choose one of five scenarios, and have land, sea and air forces at your disposal.

To win the war you must take control of the capital, five major towns, the airport, and two ports. To start with, you can only move your landing craft, they become land divisions as you successfully get them to the island. Each force has a power rating which enemy attacks will weaken. Status reports can be called up frequently, and you occasionally receive telex messages and other surprise reports.

Bridgehead is a long game, and progress at times seems rather tedious, but it works well and the graphic display of the island adequately illustrates the progress of play. Not outstanding, and reasonable value for money.

Bridgehead costs £3.00 from Gavin Barker, 12 Fleming Field, Shotton Colliery, County Durham DH6 2JF.
