AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack

While it is true that there are many, many songs available to download through the music store on Rock Band and Rock Band 2, it makes me scratch my head when track packs on disc make their way onto the Xbox 360/PS3. The first of two that arrived on my desk this past week was one for AC/DC. I first must mention that you do NOT have to own either Rock Band title to play this game, but of course you do need a guitar, mic, or drums to rock with the bad boys of British rock. Of course if you do own the game and have not yet downloaded the tracks available on this disc, there is a code provided to allow you to add these songs to your ever growing play list.

What you get here is over an hour and a half of AC/DC at their best and live. The song list is extensive and will please any fan of the band for sure. Many gamers will be imitating the "Angus Young" guitar dance while playing this list of what can be considered the best of AC/DC:

1. Thunderstruck 2. Shoot to Thrill 3. Back in Black 4. Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be 5. Heatseeker 6. Fire your Guns 7. Jail Break 8. The Jack 9. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 10. Money Talks 11. Hells Bells 12. High Voltage 13. Whole Lotta Rosie 14. You Shook Me All Night Long 15. T.N.T. 16. Let There Be Rock 17. Highway to Hell 18. For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)

This is some genuine rock and even if you aren't the biggest fan of the band, you will have fun playing along with these hard rocking hits. While the list is extensive I do have a couple of gripes with this track pack. First off, you don't get any AC/DC avatars to play with, so don't expect to see Angus or Bryan Johnson running up and down the stage (unless you create them yourself). Next, the big finale song has no pyro technics as much of the game just feels like Rock Band. I expect this with song downloads, but for a game that doesn't require the actual Rock Band game, you would figure that concert themes, animations, and special effect would be included. Lastly, the game is using all the tracks from a live album, yet you can not play the songs consecutively. Yes you can play them in quick play, but you have that awkward break up to the menu between songs. Heck you can't even make a set list with all the songs to play in a row on the disc included (but of course you can if you are playing the Rock Band or Rock Band 2 discs).

With these minor quibbles aside, buying this disc pack is slightly cheaper than buying all the songs online, so this is the best bargain for your buck. Fans will pick this up bar none, but others may want this set to add to their list of songs to play with their friends during parties. Just prepare to rack up those ending bonus counts after each song... some are upwards of 50000 in solo play alone!
